Initiatives

Campus  Safety

Initiative #1: Improve Campus Safety:

1) Create a program called “Campus Cruiser” to implement a mobile solution for students to more easily find a safe ride home.

  • Have a high volume of cars on Thursday through Saturday so that students can get home safely.

Actions being taken: In contact with other schools that have successfully integrated program to narrow down logistics, liability, required paperwork, etc.

2) See to the results of the Campus Safety forums and make sure that updates are effectively communicated to the student body.

Actions being taken: Creating open lines of communication with Lauren Utley (Assistant Director of Greek Life), Carl Johnson (Director of Student Life), and Don Enloe (Director of Campus Safety) to ensure students are receiving updates on the issue. The student body is the party directly invested and effected by Campus Safety and deserve to receive constant updates and information.

Initiative #2: Build a Stronger Sense of School Spirit!

Advocate for greater support and integration of all students into Student Organizations, Greek Life, and DU athletics. The present gap that exists between student groups needs to be bridged. We believe this is 100% possible through effective communication, creative programming, and by building interdependence between groups.

1) Research, improve, and create a universal campus-wide calendar of all events. Currently we have OrgSync but Greek Chapters, Student Organizations, and Athletic Events do not have a merged calendar. This will not only decrease event overlap but it is one step in the right direction for encouraging a stronger sense of community and successful event outcomes.

Actions being taken: Researching new software options with the Directors of Event Scheduling that are more user friendly and assessable! Build it in to one of the current software’s that the students use every day (Canvas!).

2) Increase accessibility to programming on campus through initiatives such as changing/improving “25 Live” and making it easier to register events.

Actions being taken: Meeting with Francisco Chacon (Assistant Director of Driscoll Student Center) and researching new software options (Looking at Dean Evans and Associates – a scheduling software company based in the Denver Tech Center)

3) Utilize Imagine DU results and meetings to make the University of Denver a better place to live, study, and play. Some amazing student ideas are below.

- Organize a shuttle to DIA on all holiday breaks

- Get conversations started about adding a 24-hour or late night food venue to the campus

- New mascot

- Create a Greek Row

- New Traditions! (ex. Undie Run, Dance Marathon, Campus-Wide Philanthropy, Boot Camp with the Athletes)

Actions being taken: Meeting with Chancellor Chopp and administration on the possibility of such ideas and narrowing down risk management, liability, and stakeholders.
